METALLIC MINERALSCanada critical mineralAlberta priority

Base metals & Ni-Cu-PGE (Shield and carbonate MVT)

190 showings on Alberta's sliver of Canadian Shield and a Pine Point analogue under the north-west — greenfield in every sense.

Alberta's only exposed Precambrian basement around Andrew and Charles lakes carries 190 metallic occurrences (88 in the Andrew–Charles Lake area) including Cu, Ni, Au and U showings and VMS-like textures at Selwyn Lake, and AGS fieldwork in 2025 sampled 370 sites. In the subsurface, Presqu'ile barrier dolomites extend the Pine Point MVT district into north-west Alberta, though AGS sampling found low economic potential. Copper at a record US$14,700/t keeps the question open.

DEVELOPMENT: TENURE, ROYALTY, PERMITTING

What a developer needs to know

Tenure
Metallic & Industrial Minerals Tenure Regulation (AR 265/2022): permit — exclusive exploration right, indefinite term, no rent, $625 fee, assessment work $7/ha (first 2 years) → $13 → $20/ha; lease — 15-year initial + 15-year intermediate term, indefinite while producing, $3.50/ha rent.
Royalty
Metallic minerals: 1 % of mine-mouth revenue pre-payout; post-payout the greater of 1 % mine-mouth or 12 % of net revenue (AR 350/93 s.4).
Lead time
15+ years
