Alberta seismic lines and earthquakes map

The only public deep-seismic imaging for Alberta is the Lithoprobe transect network; industry 2D and 3D seismic is licensed, not published. This map draws the Lithoprobe line locations, the AGS earthquake catalogue (including induced events near Fox Creek and Red Deer) and the seismic cutline footprint in the oil sands region.

Induced-seismicity zones constrain hydraulic fracturing, disposal and injection, so they matter for Duvernay, Montney, geothermal and CO2-storage projects.

QUESTIONS THIS MAP ANSWERS

Frequently asked

Is seismic data for Alberta public?
Deep crustal Lithoprobe line locations and the earthquake catalogue are public; industry reflection seismic is owned by its acquirers and sold through brokers. The cutline layer shows where seismic has been shot in the oil sands region. More
