INDUSTRIAL MINERALS

Building & dimension stone

Rundle rock and Paskapoo sandstone built Calgary and the Legislature; today a C$6 M/yr niche.

Thunderstone has quarried Rundle rock (Banff–Exshaw shaly sandstone and limestone) east of Canmore since 1960, and Paskapoo sandstone from 15 historic Calgary quarries clad the city's heritage buildings and the Legislature. Provincial building-stone value is around C$6 M a year, limited by Bow Valley land use.
